I have a new policy that every person I photograph must be smoking and wear vintage glasses. OK, I don't actually want to encourage smoking, but the wisps of smoke can create an interesting sense of motion in a photo. Cigarettes give a model something to do with their hands.

Interesting idea, but I think in today's times the smoking is more controversial than anything else. Like the glasses.
